BAE Systems Chairman's Award
DTS's work on the HEADS (Gen 1) project team was recognized for the BAE Systems Chairman's Award, Bronze level, for innovation and technology. The Chairman's Awards are given annually by BAE Systems to recognize
those who have taken exceptional action toward the organization's betterment.
In 2006, DTS was awarded a contract from the Wright Patterson AFRL to develop an ultra small, low power helmet-mounted shock recorder to measure acceleration and pressure levels in combat events. This Embedded Event Recorder was further developed in 2007 for the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corp, and underwent field trials in Iraq and Afghanistan on more than 6,000 units.
The project proved both successful and valuable, with HEADS (Gen 2) fielding 20,000 units to troops and an additional 20,000 units in production. The U.S. Army named the DTS Helmet Sensor as one of "The Greatest Inventions of 2011".
