HEAD INJURY PREVENTION
HEAD INJURY PREVENTION/INJURY BIOMECHANICS TESTING
IMPROVING TEST METHODS TO REDUCE SPORTS & FOOTBALL HEAD INJURIES & CONCUSSIONS
Testing Challenges:
- Developing new testing methodologies for helmet-on-helmet concussion testing
- Large off-board data acquisition systems with moving test articles
- Cables that can tangle and cause issues with noise or data loss
- Sensor ranges for human factors
- Complicated test setups with multiple test articles
- Synchronizing high-speed cameras, trigger, power, and communication
DTS Key Features:
- Miniature, rugged data acquisition systems and sensors
- High-performance sensors: angular rate, accelerometers, six degrees of freedom (6DOF) sensor packages, 6DOF data logger
- Designed to embed in the test article near sensors, eliminates trailing cables, reduces test setup time, and improves data quality
- Data writes to non-volatile flash memory
- Easy-to-use software for set-up, viewing, and data export
- Reliable, repeatable test data to validate new methodologies
DID YOU KNOW? The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) used DTS in-dummy data acquisition systems for a research project aimed at reducing sports-related concussions and traumatic brain injuries. Researchers built an 80-foot railed track with a motorized sled to recreate impact scenarios and analyzed game footage to identify and test “worst-case” collisions.
