HELICOPTER DROP TESTING

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS & OCCUPANT SAFETY, FULL-SCALE DROP TESTS

Testing Challenges:

  • Full-scale fuselage drop test
  • Complicated high-channel count tests
  • Mix of structural measurements & ATDs for occupant safety
  • Onboard DAQ solutions with long sensor cable runs
  • Time-consuming and costly
  • Reliable data collection in destructive tests
  • Synchronizing power, triggering, communication, & cameras

DTS Key Features:

  • Rugged, crashworthy DTS data acquisition solutions
  • Flexible configurations, in-dummy DAS & offboard DAS
  • Full sensor support: bridge, IEPE, MEMS, strain, load, voltage, temperature, and more
  • Onboard recording, data writes to non-volatile flash memory
  • Powerful set-up, control, and data viewing software
  • Experts in dynamic safety testing and injury biomechanics

DID YOU KNOW? (Images shown above) NNASA’s Langley Landing & Impact Research (LANDIR) facility used DTS solutions to capture critical data during a full-scale drop test of a 45-foot CH-46E Sea Knight Marine helicopter. The helicopter was dropped from 9 meters at 48 km/h, with over 350 sensor channels, 13 instrumented crash test dummies, additional non-instrumented ATDs, and 40 high-speed cameras collecting precise impact data.
